    As an ex-Olympic water polo athlete, and having provided physiotherapy treatment for professional and semi-professional athletes in Canberra and Perth, Mark Oberman became the owner of Kalamunda Physiotherapy Centre in 2005. Over ten years later, he continues to share his extensive knowledge and experience in sports physiotherapy with patients and during our supervised gym and pool classes.

    After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1996, Mark gained post graduate experience in sports related physiotherapy, post-operative care, lower back and neck conditions and Core Stability. He has previously helped the WAIS Water Polo and Canoeing programmes, been the physiotherapist for National League Water Polo teams in Perth and assisted the Canberra Cannons in the NBL and the Weston Creek Wildcats in the ACTAFL. Most recently Mark was the physiotherapist for the Kalamunda Eastern Suns basketball teams in the State Basketball League (SBL).

    Still passionate about sport, Mark plays water polo socially, swims regularly and rides a road bike with his wife. He has two children who are involved in water polo, swimming, basketball and netball, and his wife, Sue Kenny, currently works as a specialist coach for the West Coast Fever after being the Australian Netball vice-captain and Selector and Assistant Coach to the National team.

    Information about Mike: Mike Stovell first commenced practice in Kalamunda in 1986 . He was only the second person in Australia to dual qualifications in physiotherapy and podiatry giving a unique perspective on the manage of the musculoskeletal system. Over the course of the last 35 years he has developed expertise in the management of lower limb disorders from the foot to the hip. He is returning to Kalamunda Physiotherapy in October 2021 to enhance the diversity of clinical practice offered by the clinic. Mike has also completed studies in Orthopaedic Manual therapy and Advanced Sports Rehabilitation along with currently being enrolled in a Masters in Sports Medicine. Mike has also served as a Curriculum Committee member for the Curtin School of Physiotherapy as well as being a past clinical supervisor for undergraduate podiatrists and post graduate Sports Physiotherapy students.

    He played a role in the collation and archiving of the history of physiotherapy in West Australia which was published in the history of physiotherapy.

    He currently is the Mascot for the Gladiator Wrestling club which is the number 1 club in WA for aspiring Olympic and Commonwealth games athletes.

    His past affiliations has been with the a variety of state league teams including the Claremont Football, Associates Rugby Union and Coastals Netball Clubs as well as being the Sports Physiotherapist for the Great Britain Paralympic Wheelchair basketball team in the lead up to the World Cup.

Novak Elliott

    Interests Outside Physiotherapy: Indoor rock climbing, trail and beach running, and spending time with his family, friends and dog.

    Novak began his professional life as a biomechanical engineer, with training through to PhD level. This provided a grounding in the forces involved in human movement, how biological tissues respond to stresses and strains, and how the body functions with joint replacements. He has also published research on computer models of fluid motion in and around the spinal cord, and of snoring and sleep apnoea. Novak holds an honorary position as Adjunct Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Curtin University.

    Novak became a physiotherapist to work more directly with people in their healthcare, graduating from Curtin University in 2022.

    Maddi graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2023. Maddi has been a long time associate of Kalamunda Physiotherapy Centre, commencing employment as a receptionist while completing her Physiotherapy degree at Notre Dame University.

    Maddi was inspired to become a physiotherapist because she loves to encourage people to improve both their mental and physical health through exercise and has always been passionate about sport and rehabilitation.

    Maddi is dedicated to helping her patient’s achieve their goals through utilising a patient-centred and holistic approach to treatment. Maddi has a keen interest in women’s health, musculoskeletal physiotherapy and helping patients return to sport after injury
